Wesley Attew: Blazing Trails
Wesley Attew, an English singer/songwriter now based in Vancouver, Canada brings an honest approach to music. With simple, yet refined lyrics, the aspiring artist encompasses a perfect mix of vocal melodies and acoustic rhythm that’s sure to pull any listener in.
What style of music do you play and who are some of your influences?
I’m a folk based singer/songwriter inspired by the likes of The Tallest Man on Earth, The Lumineers, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen.
What’s most unique about you as an artist?
A good friend wrote this when I mentioned this question, it was too funny not to share: "Wesley Attew ain’t no Taylor Swift and he’s not just another heartthrob Brit standing on stage belting love ballads with an acoustic guitar. Wesley's music is complex and raw while being simple and homey, like the warmth of a tent in the middle of a thunderstorm. It’s his poetic lyricism and storytelling that makes him unique. His music explores the visceral thrill of traveling uncharted territory and your interactions with the people that you meet along the way."
How do you best prepare for a show?
Normally I’m very last minute with my preparations but I always like to have a rough set list ready.
What is the songwriting process like for you as an artist?
Usually a song starts with the lyrics first. Melodies just seem to arrive in my head at random. I then pick up the guitar to build around that initial melody.
If you could share the stage with any band/artist who would it be?
Tough question. It used to be Springsteen or Dylan. Right now I would say The Tallest Man On Earth or Bon Iver.
What’s currently on your playlist?
Currently I’m listening to The 1975, Bon Iver, Dawes, and Sam Fender.
