Getting personal with Nicole Audrey

Nicole Audrey's music can be described as pop with influences of folk. Some of her biggest songwriting and musical inspirations range from Sia and Lady Gaga to Florence and the Machine and Mother Mother. She has performed as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and dropped her debut EP on July 6 2018.

What is the songwriting process like for you as a band/artist?
My songwriting process usually begins with a melody that pops into my head and I immediately record it on my phone. Then, I try to think of themes, symbolism, and stories that I eventually work in to lyrics. From there the rest comes naturally as I tweak the lyrics to match the melody then work out the chord progression on the piano or guitar.

What’s most unique about you as an artist
My songs tell stories with thought-provoking and meaningful lyrics. I blend them with catchy melodies and pop beats that can get you dancing and singing along. Also, my sound is characterized by my rhythmic vibrato.

How do you best prepare for a show?
I best prepare for a show by consistently practicing and trying new things each day to improve. Practicing in front of a mirror always works well!

If you could share the stage with any band/artist who would it be?
Mother Mother as they have been my favourite band and have been a songwriting inspiration for many years.

What’s currently on your playlist?
I recently curated a playlist of songs that have inspired me to write "15," the second song off of my EP. You can find the playlist on my Spotify profile with songs by Alanis Morisette, No Doubt, MILCK, and the Lumineers.
