Afrobar: Driven And Determined
Afrobar is a Vancouver based Ugandan born singer/songwriter who plays a mix of R&B, soul, and pop. Citing Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Sam Smith as some of his main influences, Afrobar has big goals for his musical career.
How did you get your start songwriting & performing?
I have been writing music as early as 14 back home in Uganda and have used it as a way to express how I feel. I then found a passion for not only writing music, but singing as well. From there I started performing more for friends and family, and even performed for a thousand person audience in Uganda for a local talent contest. When I moved to Canada, I focused on songwriting a lot and started performing at various venues anywhere I could.
What motivates you as an artist?
My passion for music and the dream of being able to perform for people all around the world. I want to bring people together and make them really feel something when they hear my music. Another source of motivation would be my family and how my passion can help them while creating a life and career for myself.
What do you look for in a great song?
When I think of a great song, I’m drawn to meaningful lyrics, something I can connect to emotionally. But I’m also drawn to songs that sound catchy and have a good melody.
What themes/subjects does your music cover?
My music covers love and pain. By covering these themes, my music can be uplifting in a way while and giving me the opportunity to address with the struggles in my life and what motivates me. My music stems from my inner emotions and that inspiration can be drawn from my family and past experiences in my life.
What are some of your goals as an artist?
I want to be able to make great music that reaches people all over the world. I also want to explore a variety of genres. I am aiming to work and collaborate with many other amazing artists and producers.
