about us

Pacific Sound Radio is the longest-running Vancouver music interview podcast, hosted and produced by James Olson. New episodes are released every other week.

James, with co-founder Jaeden Froese, created PSR in July 2017 with one goal in mind: to foster and grow support for the Vancouver music scene. From day one, the show has been a guest-driven program, providing a platform for local artists to share their stories and showcase their personalities.

From January 2018 to March 2020, Pacific Sound Radio operated out of the iconic East Vancouver restaurant Save On Meats as part of the Save On Radio digital radio network, with a team including co-host Travis Noel and photographer/videographer Raunie Mae Baker. PSR celebrated its first anniversary with a show at the Rickshaw Theatre, hosted the Snug Concert Series at the Persephone Snug Tasting Room, and became established within the Vancouver music community as a go-to source for everything happening in the scene.

When Save On Meats closed in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, James took the show independent again and returned with new episodes, also hosting livestream showcases in collaboration with Live Acts Canada. There was so much going on that the chance to celebrate episode 100 on May 5, 2020 flew by — don’t worry, we celebrated episode 150!

In 2022, James teamed up with Will Chernoff and added PSR to the Chernoff Music group of podcasts, recording out of an East Vancouver studio. Drawing from a love of local music and a growing network of musicians, James continues to uncover the ever-expanding variety of up-and-coming artists on the West Coast.
